I had big dreams when i finished college. Not at all bad. But look back now i feel like someone should have told me that life on this other side would be different you know. Early into my transition from uni life to the ‘real world life’ as they call it, i got dissapointed. No, i felt rejected. No, i started to question my own sense of worth and value as i was not landing jobs but also i was not getting feedback from my applications. Nothing sucks like that!

To you our beloved Human Resource Experts, please respond to our emails y’all๐Ÿ˜‘, just let us know that you got our emails and we weren’t selected, it brings peace of mind than holding on for sometime thinking you will get called and have to tell you the ugly truth that it’s been two months they probably have picked someone by now๐Ÿ˜ฅ. Okay on telling us part, it sucks receiving a rejection email, God, it sucks. My rule of thumb, don’t check your inbox in the morning.

I used to have days lived in sadness and feeling rejected from everyone and the world just because i received an email from a job that i really wanted. The real world sucks like that. That’s the truth, I’m sorry. I really want to tell you something positive, this is sad. Your self worth is not measured by landing a job as i like to call them ‘gigs’ fast. Your self worth is not measured in gigs. You have worth, that’s unquestionable.

I want to tell you that when you don’t get a response or get it late and it is ‘i’m sorry to inform you blah blah blah’, they are not rejecting you as a person, they are just saying no to working with you, don’t take it personally. And I may add they are saying no to working with you now, cause that happened to me, they said no then couple months later I worked with them. The way life works is different. But my point is when you take it personally, you end up judging your self worth, yourself by their emails, by the jobs you do, or by your salary which shouldn’t be the case, these things should be separated.

The last thing I want to you to see is now you have so much time, to take care of yourself and invest in yourself. Learn a new skills, take online courses while applying for job, we all know job hunting is a job itself, so we all can understand when you spend more hours staring at your laptop or phone, so use that time to do something for you, discover yourself, your values.

When you have improved yourself like that, you may approach job application differently, most of us apply for jobs because we need them, but we don’t see that it is the company that needs us, we bring value to them, work hard to see your value and what you can contribute in the company you apply to, and next time you receive that rejection email, we all know they lost you, it is their loss. You are energetic, smart, have value and being fresh from school you have new, great ideas, I promise you something good will come to you.

It maybe a job or a new business idea, be open minded so that you can see different options that you have. Not all of us are meant to be employed, university conditioned us to seek employment but some were meant to create spaces that employ, others were meant to do something different maybe. Life is no one size fits all!

And please remember, don’t check your emails in the morning. Nights are good, you sleep on it and wake up with a new hope.๐Ÿค—
